for a just world - para un mundo justo - for en rettferdig verden - para um mundo justo

Updated 12 April 2006

Having finished my MA in international relations, peace and conflict resolution as a Rotary World Peace Fellow at the University of Salvador in Buenos Aires, I returned to Oslo. Also having finalised my MA thesis on the role of NGOs in the promotion of a Culture of Peace in Brazil, I can now concentrate on work.

In January, I was offered a one year contract as the Coordinator of the Norwegian Millennium Campaign, which aims to inform the Norwegian population about the Millennium Development Goals, as agreed to by the United Nations in 2000. The campaign consists of four organisations (the UNDP Nordic Office, the UN Association, UNICEF Norway and the Norwegian Peace Corps Fredskorpset), and I am based at Fredskorpset's offices in central Oslo.

On the side, I am running my own little organisation, Gert Danielsen Consulting, in order to give courses and seminars in Nonviolent Communication, for which certification process I am a registered candidate, supervised by the US-based Centre for Non-Violent Communication. I also carry out translations, writing, research and consulting upon request.

I am also a member of the Executive Boards of United World Colleges Norway, the Norwegian Peace Alliance and the National Association for Gay and Lesbian Liberation, Chapter Oslo and Akershus.

Furthermore, I am part of David Adams' team which prepared the Civil Society's World Report on a Culture of Peace and promoted it at the UN General Assembly in September 2005, with wide recognition. I have been responsible for coordination in Brazil, Scandinavia and some other countries, photo editing and translations from English to Spanish for the Report's web site, and will, although less actively, continue my efforts this year. United Network of Young (UNOY) Peacebuilders is the Netherlands-based NGO currently leading this work..

Until July 2005, I was the Director of the international youth NGO World Voices Norway, for which I now work as a project coordinator. I was also part of the Argentine Network on Non-Violent Communication (NVC), doing some NVC workshops in Buenos Aires.

I also study Arabic and give presentations or do workshops on Culture of Peace and Conflict Management at entities such as Rotary Clubs and for NGOs.

Former Activities

In December 2004 I finished an internship with the Royal Norwegian Embassy, and in October 2005 I terminated my volunteering in a team of researchers established by the UNDP's Democratic Dialogue Network in Latin America, in which I was following closely the situation in Nicaragua.

While in Argentina, I also studied Portuguese at Centro Universitario de Idiomas (CUI), and I trained as a mediator with the University of Buenos Aires. I was also the contact person in Argentina for the campaign Boycott Bush!, which encourages the boycott of companies which financially support the George W. Bush government.
