...let's drop bombs and bread! |

Bush keeps dropping bombs over suffering Afghans, but at least he drops
a few loaves of bread, as well. Bags of grain marked "USA" in big,
nationalistic colours are sent over the border, hoping they will reach
someone who can read the letters of freedom and know that the USA is
really their friend. I mean, an enemy would never send food, right?
Pathetic, Bush. So pathetic that in my eyes you lose all the respect
I had for US Government. And I am saddened by the increasing support you
seem to get from your people. How can you possibly sleep at night,
knowing that your bombs are the very base of your support in the
American population? As you lead your tranquile life, sending out the
most hypocritical message to the people of Aghanistan, noted by the
UNDP as being one of the poorest and worst off countries in the
world...
How will violence solve this issue? How will violence end
terrorism? An armed attack on Afghanistan and on Islamic fundamentalists
is the most absurd and least considered decisions taken by US Government
in years, and I am surprised that you almost seem to believe it yourself,
that bombs and weapons will stop terrorism. I am baffled. Really
baffled.
I still feel sorry for Bush. Rather than judging him, I am saddened,
and I ask myself what happened to him during his childhood, which made
him believe in violence? Who abused or hurt him, for him to feel that
missiles will solve the security threats in the world? And who taught him
that taking another life is right, through death penalty?
We all act upon what we learn, and childhood is time for learning. We
learn from experience, and I pledge everyone who reads this never to
justify violence in any way, not even passively, by not speaking up
against it. It will have its serious consequences, even
though we may not have the power to blow up the world, like Bush does.
Let us help people like Bush, and treat them well, so that they will
understand that love is the only way to eliminate hatred, violence and
war. They have obviously not been taught to love and to appreciate the
beauty of humanity, and the planet. But those of us who have,
let us share this beauty with the rest of the world!

To get to know me better, read about my days,
which very much reflect what I
do, what I believe in and how I view life and humanity in everyday life.
I believe we can CHANGE THE WORLD by feeding the hungry, saving a few acres of rainforest, sponsoring Health Care for children infected by AIDS, fighting breast cancer and preventable diseases, daily killing children all over the world. You can do ALL this on The Hunger Site, where there are links to various online action initiatives, as mentioned. You can also do a lot to reduce consumption and make a better world by going vegetarian. This is why I am a veggie. |
Amnesty International is one of many NGOs which are fighting torture, and you can help them Stop Torture. If you are one of many tired of Corporate Power and Explotation of our planet and humankind, have a look at what corporations you should avoid supporting. Corporate Watch is an incredible organisation working for our planet, attempting to stop those who are killing it.
And read here what AIDS really can do to people. This was written by a friend of mine, Michael, who is doing a post graduate degree on tropical medicine and HIV in Kenya.

Buying Fair Trade is one of many concrete ways of making it a better world for all.
But things ARE happening. There is a hope for the poor, for the AIDS-affected, for the rainforests, for the ill and for the abused, and although McDonald's is NOT your best choice for tonight's dinner, they are listening to organisations like PETA, and are looking for more "humane" way of breeding and killing their animals.
Read more on PETA Online.
I believe that we, as conscious citizens of the world, can commit to making changes for the good of all beings. As I see it, it is not only an opportunity or a question of belief. I truly feel that it is our responsibility.

So who am I? I was born in the beautiful coastal town of Bergen in Norway in 1977, and ever since I was ten, I have lived in Maura in Nannestad, just north of Oslo.

In 1993/94, I went to Eidsvoll videregaende before attending the Armand Hammer United World College in New Mexico, USA. Today there are ten United World Colleges (UWC) all over the world, and they are international IB-schools which promote peace and international understanding through education for youth. I graduated from the Armand Hammer UWC in May 1996.

Currently, I am a student at the University of St Andrews, where I am pursuing my final year of an MA Honours in International Relations and Spanish. During the academic year 1999-2000, I worked voluntarily for CODECAL, Corporacion Integral para el Desarrollo Cultural y Social, a non-governmental organisation carrying out Conflict Resolution, community services and educational work in Colombia. I also actively support the 16 year old Colombian boy, Gerson Andres Florez Perez Gerson Andres Florez Perez in his extraordinary work against antipersonal landmines. His song for peace was sung performed by Norwegian artist Stig van Eijk at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo on 10 December 2000. In February-April 2000 I was coordinating workshops in Communication and Conflict Transformation, as well as co-facilitating a University course for Peace Pedagogy in Sincelejo, El Sucre, in the northern part of Colombia, a conflictual but very beautiful country.
Now, meet my boyfriend or find out what I believe in, with lots of links to various kinds of pages. There is a Curriculum Vitae available here |
